The Northam Aero Club Flying School operates a possible SIX days per week depending on Students requirements,
Monday to Saturday with Saturday being the main day for training.
The first step to a career in Aviation or to obtain the Private Pilot Licence (PPL) is normally a Trial Instructional Flight (TIF).
This flight, is a hands on experience flying from the Captain's seat, with an Instructor at your side to guide you through
this unforgettable experience. This flight usually lasts approximately 30 minutes and is loggable time towards your PPL.
Cost is $100.00.
There is no minimum education requirement for the issue of any Australian Pilot's licence. Also there is no age limit.
However before a person can fly solo they must be at least 16 years old and have passed a Medical Examination given
by a Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) Designated Aviation Medical Examiner (DAME). They must also hold a
Student Pilot Licence issued by the Chief Flying Instructor (CFI) of the relevant flying school.
Northam Aero Club requires all Student Pilots to become members of our club.
Cost of joining the Northam Aero Club is $10.00 Nomination Fee, Plus $50.00 Annual Subscription. Total to join $60.00.
The first level of training takes you through to the General Flying Progress Test (GFPT).
A minimum of 20 hours is required prior to attempting the GFPT, however a more realistic figure is between 25
and 30 hours depending on how often you fly. It normally takes between 10 and 15 hours to achieve your first
Solo Flight. Again this depends on how often you fly.
Having successfully completed the GFPT you are now able to carry passengers in the local training area.
The GFPT is undertaken in the Club's Cessna C172 at the cost being $240.00 per hour. This includes
pre-flight briefing and a debriefing at the conclusion of each flight.
After GFPT you commence Navigation training.
There is a minimum of 22 hours of Cross Country flying training to complete in preparation for the PPL.
The Cross Country Flying is broken into 7-8 exercises of between 2.5 hours and 4 hours each.
Cost of Flying in the C172 is $240.00 per hour.
